Sustainability Spotlight

Putting Your Commitment on Display

This system is helping to save on the carbon footprint of Albany. Our goal is that hopefully more people walking down the streets with empty bottles and cans will put them in the recycling bins as opposed to the trash.

Turn a liability into an asset – instead of viewing trash cans as a necessary evil, the Bigbelly Smart Waste & Recycling System is a platform to communicate with your constituents about your environmental programs.

Customising stations with wraps and/or message panels provides a unique branding opportunity for your sustainability initiatives. Highly visible recycling offerings and eye-level solar also provides the perfect opportunity for community engagement.

And now thanks to Bigbelly technology, you will be able to report on your recycling diversion rate and tout the successes of your programs.

Sustainability Spotlight on Campus

Each year, the University of British Columbia Okanagan opts to pursue various types of sustainability initiatives but it is difficult for the staff to keep track of everything available. When Joshua walked around campus and garbage bins were full, he thought of the Bigbelly solar compactors he had seen in a local town. The university worked with this student to deliver this sustainability opportunity to campus. The campus courtyard is the “epicenter” to optimize reduction in pickup frequency, which has changed from waste pick up every day to only once a week. When a passion hits home, students really can make a difference and an environmental impact!
